Husby
Forest Products Ltd. (Husby) recognizes environmental
management as the highest corporate priority and as a key
determinant to sustainable development.
It is our corporate priority to establish policies, programs,
and practices for conducting operations in an environmentally
sound manner.

ISO CERTIFICATION

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
is a worldwide recognized federation of national standards
bodies responsible for providing definitions, standards, and
principles associated with independent and verifiable
environmental auditing to provide assurance a company is
achieving environmental standards.
There are basic components necessary for a company to be
declared as ISO certified. These include;
- An Environmental Policy
- Commitment to;
- Continual Improvement
- Meeting or exceeding legal requirements
- Preventing pollution
- Promoting environmental awareness
- Independent 3rd party audits for compliance
HFP has been working towards achieving ISO certification
over the last 2 years and will achieve this goal by
May/2002.
SFI CERTIFICATION
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is another
certification initiative gaining in popularity throughout
North America. It shares many characteristics with ISO
certification. However, it is specifically designated
towards the forest industry.
There are some basic and fundamental principles required
for operations to achieve SFI certification;
- Practice Sustainable Forestry
- Use Responsible Practices
- Maintain Forest Health and Productivity
- Protect Special Sites
- Commit to continual improvement
Throughout 2001/2002, HFP worked towards confirming
company policies and procedures towards SFI certification.
In May/2002, HFP achieved SFI Certification.
